Daiwa Can’s Tokyo Plant Honored by Kanagawa Governor for Its Harmonious Coexistence with the Local Community

On November 25, 2010, Daiwa Can’s Tokyo Plant was honored by the Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture as one of 2010’s ideal business establishments in the region that harmoniously coexisted with the local community.

The Government of Kanagawa Prefecture has been annually honoring plants and research facilities in the prefecture that make considerable efforts to contribute to and harmoniously coexist with their local communities. In the selection of these business establishments, the local government considers such efforts as maintaining green areas within the premises, opening of the facilities to the public, and active involvement in local events. The honorees in recent years include such top-brand companies like Sony and Nissan Motors, and, in 2010, the prefectural government chose four business establishments including Daiwa Can Tokyo Plant.

The Tokyo Plant is located in the city of Sagamihara, which has the third largest population (after Yokohama and Kawasaki) in Kanagawa Prefecture. Located west of Tokyo within a one-hour train ride distance, the city has attracted more and more population in recent years as an ideal suburban commuter town.

Since its establishment in 1959, the plant has been making efforts to keep its premises green by planting trees. Also, in addition to the periodical offerings of the employee’s baseball field to the local children teams for use, the plant employees voluntarily clean up neighborhood on some regular basis, and such positive contributions were appreciated by the prefecture this time.

Besides the Tokyo Plant, Daiwa Can expands similar social contribution efforts in other seven manufacturing sites nationwide, including environmental beautification and the promotion at local environmental events of container recycling. The Company is keen to continue playing an active social role in this way.
